Naked Raku is a multi-stage process. Before the bisque firing they were burnished multiple times to a soft sheen. Then a masque and sacrificial slip and glaze were applied to them before firing them again to 1400 degrees. Immediately they are pulled from the kiln and placed in a reduction chamber with combustible material where smoke seeps into the voids to create dramatic patterning. The final step is to remove the slip/glaze layer and buff the piece with wax.
